SAI KUNG IS LOVE. LOVE IS SAIKUNG!

HIKING AT SAI KUNG WAS AWESOME!

To be amazed and amused! :)

Nothing explains better than pictures do for this trip.

So this is the beginning of our trip! We thought plans for this hiking trip had been cancelled, because of the continuous pourings over the past few days due to typhoon season. However, Idy gave us a call when we were still in bed at 1030am, and told us that the hike is still on! Weather was reasonably good, with slight drizzles. We were quick on our toes, to get all the necessities ready for our adventure! Wheeeeee!

We were late in meeting Idy at Cai Hong MTR station, but she seemed okay with it! We were introduced to her friend, whom she met on another hiking trip, Paul. Excited and enthusiastic, off we gooooooo! Boarded a mini bus (and it was our virgin time on a mini bus) to Sai Kung. Ever wondered why they have a speed-o-meter facing the passengers? The scenery was fabulous, very countryside and not so urbanized.

We met a bigger group of people at Sai Kung checkpoint, and interestingly, they are just friends of friends of friends that come together almost every week! We had breakfast at Macdonald's, and I actually had fattening 4 piece McWings even before attempting to lose some fats. I have sinned greatly,so much oil that I needed to drain out on those hills! We all took a cab, having either 4 or 5 people on each cab. We noticed that in the city, the cabs are in red, whilst the cabs in the outskirts are green! Green cabs are generally much cheaper, but we had no idea why we were instructed to hop on a red one.

It was about a 20-minute ride into the not-so-accessible hills, and ta-dah! We alighted at a pavillion, our starting point! It was raining; pitter-patter-pitter-patter, but it wasn't going to dampen our moods, it was a "Let's Get Wet" attitude! Lam Fung is so INSPIRATIONAL. Idy was so sweet, she brought raincoats for Sharon & I, for she knew we would definitely meet with rain! Idy was holding onto a G10 (my dream camera!), and we both hid our cameras under our raincoats. So our first checkpoint - Sai Wai Village.

We walked and talked, getting to know each other better, with lots of picturetaking. The terrain was breathtakingly spectacular! Blue-ish clear waters in between green top hills, the setting looks fake, but come on, it is all natural's beauty!

Upon arrival at Sai Wan village, we met wild cows next to us along the pathways, and piles of cow dung on the steps and pathways. The villagers were selling beancurd that is made using well water. Cool! But didn't get to try because they say it is unclean. The 'kampong' looked like the ones in Pulau Ubin, but some of the houses looks better developed.

Settled down at some sheltered pavillion by the beach, to quench our thirst and hunger pangs for those whose stomach digests food really quickly. I was still full from my McWings, but had Bubble Tea and shared luncheon meat with egg in instant noodles with Idy and Sharon. Tried snapping shots of divers resting on the rocks with my PowerShot. This was the time I realised that one of my camera's function is spoilt! Damn, I'm not going to send it for repair again.

On Hong Kong's very own beach! The guys played many "Dare" games, and Paul the loser had to jump into this disposed tyre that contained a pool of seawater. Splash, he went in. We walked further down, and

Stunningly magnificent view, ain't it? You don't get it in Singapore or in city districts, do you?
I love the spider photo!
The hills were steep, that I could hear myself panting while were moving up. E-lis, you are so weak! It was my first time hiking with slippers! My slippers slipped off my feet quite a few times, and the feeling of it coming off made me feel as if I'd roll down if I wasn't too careful!

A group photo! We love HIKING!

Our next checkpoint; wherever you call it! The beach they mentioned that we'll stay for quite some time.

Look like we are having fun? Yes we are!

More fun shots with fun peeps! Everyone loves to cam-whore yo!

Hey girl, I wanna catch your wave!
Wanna be Hong Kong's next top model?

A game I played with Jason, who can throw the slipper the furthest. Surprisingly, I WON! See those things flying in the air, cool beans! Totally. Jason now owes me Haagen Dazs!

We had to wade through this swampy area, and it was really scary because there were frogs and toads everywhere. They were making disgusting sounds, and it could be heard as if they were so near that they'd jump onto your feet anytime! It was a relief, once we got out of it. Walking through the forested area, I sure did face some difficulties stepping on branches and rocks wearing slippers, but it was fine alright! I felt like Tarzan. Hahaha.

Surfboards for sale, and paintings of waves on the walls of buildings. I'd want to learn surfing! I'd be the coolest person in the world if I'd be able to surf on the waters during typhoon signal 8! This place is so alike to Pulau Ubin.

It was getting dark, and we finally completed our journey!!! It was like Journey to the West, and I resemble zhu ba jie (Piggy). It seems weird that I am shooting myself, oh welllll. They called for the boat to come and fetch us, and a larger sized motor boat came to pick us up soon after.

After the boat trip, we arrived safely on grounds of the Ferry Terminal at Huang Shi (Yellow Stone). We boarded a bus to go back to Sai Kung, and had dinner together as a whole. Sheesh, the Thai food we had was a fake! It's non-authentic!

Took a mini bus back to Hong Kong Island from Sai Kung, for HKD 20 (SGD 4). Better still, it was gonna take us back to Causeway Bay just next to our apartment. We were exhausted, but we were afraid that we'd miss our stops, so we decided to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the night view of Hong Kong, from Kowloon back to City.

We had such a great time, thanks to our new friends found, especially to Idy who made these possible by making arrangements for us to tag along.

feeling sore! :(

Came down with a sore throat today, and the feeling simply sucks. Coughing and jerking each time I cough, destroys my enthusiasm at everything and just makes me lethargic.

It was wondrous seeing Miss Cynthia Heng here at Causeway Bay, so near and convenient for us. She was with her boyfriend, and she will be around Hong Kong for a few days. We chatted about our ongoing events, and what had happened so far. Nicely ended the day off, despite the fact that my throat was irritating me the whole day.

happy @ work

Work was great today, despite the fact that we had to go to work on a Sunday. We did some administrative work for the club royal house, had lunch with Jerry our boss-of-the-day and Mathrew (I have already confirmed the correct spelling); who both were so child-like and funny in their own way. We had Tom with us on Saturday.

Fact of the day!
In Hong Kong's cafe (Ca Can Ting), the Tea that they serve is not for drinking, but it is for washing of your cutleries! I almost drank the tea, until they dumped the forks, knives, and spoons in!

We also got to play with little children at the Kid's Fun Programme, who were really good at self defence; we don't have to worry about them in the open. We had flour and jam, slippers, and soaked tissue paper WARS in the room. I got beaten up, whacked, and molested by the kids, but what to do, they are just kids!

Sharon and I were soooo looking forward to 6 p.m., so that we could rush down to Mongkok to do some hardcore shopping!

wasssssssuuuppppppppppppppp.

We met Raymond Lam Fung (林峰) at the lift lobby yesterday, who just finished his concert in Hong Kong.

And today, we met the biggest shot of Hong Kong's biggest property developer; our company Sun Hung Kai Properties, Chairman Kwong Siu-Hing!

How much luckier can we get?

Anyway, it's a Saturday, and we still had to report for work for a full day, as well as tomorrow, Sunday. Just when we were just about to look forward to a nice relaxing weekend, and when everyone else will be enjoying their sundays out. But fret not, we are having off-days in the coming week. Yayyy, shopping with lesser crowds.

Been to the same H&M outlet in Central for three consecutive days, and my bill totalled up to a really scary figure because of the multiplied rate of HongKong dollars as compared to Singapore's. Stuff were on SALE, SALE, SALEEEEE! How could you not resist buying? Because I didn't bring enough money, I had to swipe my credit card to pay. DAMN! Dad would just kill me.

siannnn.

What a joke. My heels broke today at the office while I was resting on one leg after cutting cake for a colleague, Carmen. One of them nicely lent me a pair of slippers, which I had to walk in, around Central, in search for H&M to buy a new pair of shoes. I came out of the shop with 3 pairs instead, with only one pair being on sale!

The night was well-spent with chatting with friends, and I was web-caming and learning cantonese from Johnathan.

We are so ugly right!

cars cars and more cars

I think Hong Kong has too many rich people already. Whenever you walk on the street, you would often see Mercedes (They call it Benz) and BMWs everywhere on the road. It is like Singapore's Toyota and Honda! Sheesh.

My work place is even better. Since all the residents are so rich, I see a lot of Porshe, Rolls Royce blah blah. And come on, I actually stood next to the latest Rolls Royce Model! It's a classic in the making, and it's spaciously HUGE.

It's so sad, I can only depend on my two kars (legs) to transport myself from one place to another.

first day @ work & moving house!

First Day of WORK! Reported at Sun Hung Kai building, at Kaishing Properties. Eager, and just slightly nervous about what we were going to do at the site that we were going to be posted to. We were going to be posted to various properties in every two weeks, regardless of residential, commercial or retail. The first place we were posted to was a relatively prestigious Residential Apartment called Dynasty Court. We had to cab down to the Old Peak Road, and we went straight to the Management Office to be introduced. Given an orientation around the place, we were wow-ed over by the poshness and amazing facilities that were available for their use. The entire concept was similar to Singapore's Carribean, of a luxurious apartment, but Sun Hung Kai wins. Man, after hearing out the prices for rental of signature homes, I was astonished at the extreme cost. I cannot even afford to stay a day, and can only dream.

Bosco gave me a call today, and let me know that we could actually shift into our new home! Sharon and I was so excited, that we happily went back to our storeroom size apartment to pack up. We were way crazy, laughing and jumping at each other. Sharon was damn freaking retarded. She tried to dry the pillow case with the ventilation fan!

We dragged our luggage down to the first floor from our duper miniature room, to the narrow corridor and handlesome lift. Managed to hail a cab, to transport us and our luggage to just a street down, of 5 minutes away. We had to lug our luggage all the way up to the house again, and wah-lah, we have arrived! We were told that there may be a probability of us needing to shift house again. SIGH... oh well.
We met our room mates, Seth and John!

Fun, Crazy, Two! They so funky and cool I wanna be cool like them. Hahahahahaha.

2nd day in Hong Kong!

Our 2nd Day in Hong Kong !!!

Breakfast Hong Kong style!
Left to Right: Rice Roll, salty bean curd (xian dou jiang), sweet beancurd

I felt much better after sleeping for an extensive period of many hours, since my lack of sleep the day before left me really lethargic. Got up, freshened up, and went down to the streetside to buy wholesome genuine Hong Kong style breakfast. We bought a rice roll, that consists of you tiao, pork floss and preserved szechuan vegetables wrapped in glutinous rice. We also bought salty beancurd, and the normal sugared beancurd. It tastes really different from what we get from Singapore. We brought the food up to our under-sized apartment, and miserably sat on our bed to eat while we watched City Harvest's online service, all just because of Sharon Tan.

Later, we made our way down to Jordan MTR to meet Auntie Jing! I was so happy to see her in person after such a long time. The first thing she said to me when she saw me was, "Oh my gosh, E-lis! YOu are so fat now!" OH Well! Got used to it already lah, nothing new. We were to meet our prospective landlord to take a look at the house. An Indian man in an all-white robe came to fetch us, to bring us to his cozy home. We followed him to a very rundown building, ad his house looked like it had gone through the war times. There was a lady which I presumed is his wife, sweeping the soiled floor, and a man who looked like Osama Bin Laden with his beard and moustache sitting on the double decker bed stoning. Oh gosh. You would have to kill me to live in such a state of a terrorist look-a-like house, so scary. We rejected the offer, and went to look for another place.

Auntie Jingggggg!!!!! Missed her a lot worxzxzxzzzzz!

We lunched at Yoshinoya, and their Beef Bowl somehow tastes better than Singapore's pathetic serving. Auntie Jing's auntie and cousin came to join us in our scout for apartments, and they were extremely helpful, greatly appreciated their enthusiasm in helping us. :)
Next, we headed to Mongkok to check out the Astronaut Hotel that was advertised in the newspapers. Auntie Jing's auntie tried to be funny, and she entered the hotel saying, "So where are all the astronauts?" Haha. The Hotel was just a single level with about 6-8 rooms for rental. We managed to haggle the price down, however, considering the facilities that were also unavailable, it was equivalent to our current apartment, just that the room was way bigger. We weren't very satisfied with the price, so we left our number with them, just in case Bosco's new offer did not meet our expectations.

We headed back to Causeway Bay, and showed Auntie Jing our apartment. She was unintentionally sniggering at the size of the house. Soon after, we walked over to our arranged destination with Bosco, and waited for him to arrive. Expecting an old or middle-aged man wearing pink, a young man in pink Abercrombie shirt appeared in front of us. He's unexpectedly young for a boss, and we found out he took over the family business. He showed us the house, and we immediately fell in love with the apartment and we decided to take it without hesitation. They had Cable TV, bigger room space, proper kitchen, bigger toilet, a washing machine and a clothes dryer. SWEET! Another plus point was that, it was really accessible from all directions!

Tasty Salted Chicken and Bubble Tea from a roadside stall on Mongkok Street :) Very yummy but very little :(

Heaved a sigh, that our accomodation has finally been settled. So since were in for a celebration, we MTR-ed back to Mongkok for a shopping spree!

Great shopping at New Town Mongkok Shopping Centre! Noodles mixed with a wide variety of ingredients to choose from @ HKD 2.50 each. Cheap and good yo!

First Day in Hong Kong!

After having sacrificed all the shopping craves and temptations for almost 4 months, the day to go to the shopping haven has finally arrived! Will be going to HongKong for attachment for 2.5 months, cool beans!

So many things I had to leave behind; family, food, friends, boyfriend, and my close colleagues.

Weijie came over to my place late in the night, of course with the permission from both parents and with family around. Hahaha. He helped me to clear my room while I packed my luggage, and I am super grateful to you dearest! If I was the one packing my room, it would take around minimum 1 week, or even forever. But with his magic hands, he managed to help me clear up in few hours! Power man! We didn't even get a wink of sleep, because by then it was already time for me to leave for the airport. Cabbed down with the four of us; Weijie, Daddy, Auntie Waileng and myself.

Changi Airport Terminal 1 at 5am sucks lo. So many cafes and food kiosks are undergoing renovations, which only leaves us the corner with killiney, jollibean and Pacific Coffee company. I had wanted to order fishball noodles from killiney, but they told us it wasn't available. Once I bought the sandwiches from Pacific Coffee Co. and sat down, they prepared the fishball noodles when ordered. What??!!! A difference of just a few minutes. The sandwiches tasted weird, and the cost was extavagant for a lousy sandwich like it.

Daddy, Auntie Waileng, Boyfriend Chua, and Samuel seeing us off at Changi Airport.

Sharon arrived with Samuel soon after, and we went to the counter check-in. When heading for the departure hall, I cried like a cry baby on daddy's flabby breasts, but I really couldn't help it. Gave everyone a hug, and I guess this shows that I really miss them in time to come. Sharon and I checked in and got onto the plane; here we come, Hong Kong!

Hong Kong, here we come!

Having heard all the commotion about JetStar being uncomfortable and all, it had actually lowered my expectations of JetStar to a level of being.. shitty. But I kinda liked the ride there, because I thought it beats the SilkAir flight I took last year to Hong Kong. Value for money what, what more could we expect from a $250 ticket? Sharon took the window seat and I was next to her, followed by this other lady. The lady kept coughing and sniffing, which made me suspect she was having H1N1. When the plane was about to take off, she looked like she wanted to vomit, and that really scared the heck out of me; I mean like, what if her vomit lands on me? So GROSS! I decided to be Little Miss Nice, and offer her some help, by asking what she need. And then she looked like she really couldn't take it, and I started to panic. We asked around for plastic bags, and the people were really nice. They offered not only a plastic bag, they even passed us vomit bags, mint, and wet tissue paper. So I passed to the lady and she immediately vomitted. Oh man. Offered her a mint after having one myself, and I guess she felt fine after the puke. The lady was just suffering from motion sickness.

We alighted from the plane and boarded a shuttle bus that would fetch us to the Airport Terminal. Above are the pictures we took at Ajisen!

4 hours later, we finally touched down at HongKong International Airport. We were to walk out of the plane through this stairway down, and there was a bus which came to fetch us to the airport. First thing we did, was to go to the tourism board counter to take all the pamphlets and brochures on Hong Kong. I took one each from the entire rack and people can definitely identify me as a kiasu Singaporean. Collected luggage, and decided to go get the HongKong Airport Express Train card, Octopus card for public transport, and the pre-paid card for phone calls. We met a really nice and patient staff who served us at 7 eleven when we were purchasing the pre-paid card. We happily went to look for food, and decided to lunch at Ajisen, which has an open air concept. We tugged our luggage all the way into the restaurant, happiily sat down, and happily browsed the menu for noodles. We were stumped initially, thinking why there were only desserts on the menu. We looked at our surroundings, and realised that we entered the wrong restaurant. So embarrassing! We tugged our luggage next door to Ajisen and settled down. Their service is crap. Sharon had some problems with understanding the chim cantonese, and we had just requested for a waiter to help us translate what the service provider was saying. Another waiter told him in cantonese, "Let them go and read themselves". No help was given for something not related to our order! We went back to the 7-eleven to look for the same guy to help us.

Airport Express Train, nice and comfy!

Took the express train and the seats sure looked posh and felt comfortable! We inter-changed at HongKong station, to go to Causeway Bay. Their MTR station is very similar to our MRT, but the only difference is between the handles and seats. We alighted at Causeway Bay station, and it is definitely complicating for first-timers like us! We lugged our luggage out of the train, and looked for the exit where we were going to meet this guy called Billy, who was gonna bring us to our new home! Yayyyy :)

Billy brought us to a very ulu place just a street away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong's "Orchard Road". We arrived at this alley with laundry shops and automobile repair shops. In between, there were metal gates with numeric code passes for security reasons. We had a hard time dragging our luggage up the stairs to the lift. And I tell you, the lift is ancient! The door, the grilles, the light bulbs, and the buttons. Cool beans! And then we entered our room, and tah-dah, double cool beans! An apartment that is half the size of my own room in Singapore! The flat so small, how fat girl stay there, no space to sit! The toilet was the best, the showerhead was just above the toilet bowl, that's how small the place is! I actually did big business in the toilet bowl, because I just had the feel. I went ahead to push the flush button, holy shit, no water came out, and my shit was still floating around. I tried all means and ways to wash the shit down, but none of it work. I closed the lid, thank god that Billy came back, and he helped us solved the problem by just opening the cover and pushing the internal button.

Welcome to our HUMBLE HOME!

So we talked to the big boss Bosco, and he was willing to rent another place to us, but at a higher cost. We were still in consideration of looking at the flats that Auntie Jing had searched for us, so we decided to put it on hold. We would be viewing all the different flats the next day.

CAUSEWAY BAY HONGKONG, our neighbourhood!

After settling down, we decided to walk around Causeway Bay. It is hugeeee man. We had a really hard time finding our way back home. Many times we lost our way around, and kept walking around. We saw aunties and uncles queuing up outside of SOGO, and realised that there was a brand apparel bazaar going on in SOGO's ballroom, so Sharon and I went be part of this queue. We walked out of the bazaar with a Ralph Lauren top each, and a Ben Sherman T-shirt for Chua Weijie.

Two most popular snack stalls among teenagers! Ireland Potato's Cheesy Fries with Minced Meat, and Pearl Milk Tea from One More Cup.

Billy looked us up for Dinner, and we headed down to Prince Edward Station for some delicious Double-boiled milk! It is like beancurd, but tastes like sweet milk. Oh, and Sharon can't differentiate between a cow and a goat! We had some smelly tofu, which stunk bad on the street, but it tastes good in the mouth! It didn't taste like cheese, like what other people say, it's just smelly nice!

Something that Singapore does NOT have, Double Boiled Milk! It like beancurd, but maybe better! Hou Hou Sek ah!

Fermented Tofu! It STINKS, but the shiok-ness come from the smelliness somehow. Heehee. Smell Tofu one of my Favourites.

We walked over to Mongkok from Prince Edward street, and there we were at H&M! The store that both of us had been waiting to enter! Billy left for home, while we spent our time there looking around, hoping to find really good deal. What a tiring day, it was time to go back home! We had to walk the same route from the MTR station that Billy guided us for the first time. Fortunately, we didn't get lost again, and alas HOME SWEET HOME!!!
